Observations show that Ophiocanops is actually an ophiomyxine ophiuroid, as originally proposed by Koehler (1922) and Mortensen (1933). Thus the Oegophiurida continue to have a Paleozoic record only, and the soft part characters of the Oegophiurida remain unknown. There is now no evidence for a post-Paleozoic gap in the oegophiurid fossil record.
