This paper discusses the role of local centers in improving the resilience of cities against the spread of an infectious disease based on Covid-19 pandemic research. The research applies an integrative literature review and case study method to discuss Warsaw’s strategy for local center development and their impact on quality of the city. The research builds on three theoretical concepts: resources-based view of city quality, polycentric city development, and local centers as subcenters of a polycentric city. The theoretical contribution of the research adds a novel benefit to advantages of polycentric city development. It shows that local centers could improve resilience against infectious diseases such as Covid-19 due to decreased mobility of inhabitants. From the practical perspective, the research indicates that local centers may be granted a prominent standing in a city strategy which contributes to a discussion on smart city development policies.
