Using ANSYS, the combustion chamber of a spark ignition engine is modeled depending on crank angle by finite elements. Applying modal analyses, the combustion chamber resonances and their frequencies are estimated. The results show that the frequencies are modulated in addition to a modulation due to a change of the speed of sound and it turns out, that pressure senor signals are amplitude modulated due to a change of pressure node and antinode distribution. Applying transient analyses, the explosive pressure increase at knock origin and its influence on the excitation of resonances are investigated. The simulation results are compared to signals measured at a test bed engine.
