No galactose was identified by paper chromatography in the blood of 11 infants given lactose-containing feeds and one infant given a galactose feed. Taking into account the limits of sensitivity of the chromatographic method and the level of saccharoid material found in the blood, it was concluded that galactose was not present in amounts greater than 10-20 mg./100 ml.
