THE dehydroxylation of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (homoprotocatechuic acid) tom-hydroxyphenylacetic acid in the animal body was first reported by Boothet al.1, and was confirmed by Schelineet al.2, with 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid labelled with carbon-14. A claim has been made recently3thatnoradrenaline is converted tom-hydroxyphenylacetic acid in guinea pigs; such a conversion involves not only dehydroxylation in the aromatic nucleus but also in the aliphatic side-chain ofnoradrenaline.
