Reaction cross sections (σ R ) for the proton drip-line nucleus 17 Ne have been measured on 9 Be, 12 C, and 17 Al targets at 64 and 42 MeV/nucleon by the transmission method. From the energy dependence of the σ R including the high energy data, the density distribution of 17 Ne was deduced through a modified Glauber-type calculation. It is indicated that 17 Ne has a long tail in the density, consistent with a (2s 1/2 ) 2 -dominant configuration of two valence protons.
