An independent commission has called on the UK government to end new HIV transmissions by 2030 and normalise HIV testing wherever blood is taken, including at GP surgeries, screening appointments, and in emergency departments.
An estimated 5900 people are currently living with undiagnosed HIV in England, significantly increasing the chance of unwittingly passing on the virus, according to the HIV Commission’s report.1
The publication—which is supported by Terrence Higgins Trust, the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF), and the National AIDS Trust—calls for an 80% reduction in new HIV transmissions by 2025.
