Dual-modality detector systems often require ground-penetrating radar antennas to be placed in close proximity to electro-magnetic induction (EMI) sensors. Traditional bowtie antennas have large copper areas in which eddy-currents can flow, leading to a big response from the EMI sensor. New antenna designs, based on removing specific copper areas to reduce the area of the eddy-currents, are introduced and evaluated here. It was found that the magnitude of the response from the EMI sensor can be reduced by over 91% without substantially altering the time-domain signal transmitted by the antennas.
