A group of 8 cases of temporal lobe epilepsy associated with the presence of small nodular tumors in the temporal lobe have been described in detail. The majority had been present for many years and may have originated in early childhood. While they were considered as most likely to be hamartomatous formations, a few showed the earliest evidence of neoplastic transformation. Evidence suggestive of the presence of tuberous sclerosis was present in 1 example. Wheather these tumors could be considered as potential sources of gliomas is briefly discussed.
