The electrochemical behavior of acetylacetonato/lanthanide (III) tetraphenylporphyrinates (TTP) Ln (acac) is reported. In these complexes, Ln represents trivalent ions of Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Tb, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb or Lu, TPP is the dianion of mesotetraphenylporphyrin and acac is the acetylacetonate anion. These complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, and byirand electronic absorption spectroscopy. The samarium complex showed different voltammetric and spectroscopic behavior from the other lanthanide complexes; this suggested the possibility of a dinuclear complex. The centers of oxidation and reduction of these complexes were on the porphyrin base, and it was suggested that the first oxidation and reduction potentials of the Er to Lu complexes are related to doming of the porphyrin ring.
