Creating Language‐Rich Instruction for English‐Language Learners

In the previous English-Language Learner (ELL) column, we addressed the first of four complementary components aimed at highlighting quality instruction for ELLs. The first in the series focused on the role of explicit code and comprehension instruction for ELLs. In that column we reminded readers of the importance of providing code instruction alongside comprehension instruction to ELLs. In this column we add to the previous column by addressing the importance of creating language-rich instruction for ELLs. It is our contention that classrooms that are language-rich are ideal contexts for meeting the needs of ELLs. How to create such an environment is the focus of this column.

在前期的《英语语言学习者》专栏中，我们讨论了构成优质英语语言教学的四个互补成份其中的第一个成份。该成份针对明确教授解码法规与阅读理解方法两方面，在优质英语语言教学上所起的重要作用。在前期专栏中，我们提醒了读者为英语语言学习者提供解码法规与阅读理解教学的重要性。今期专栏继续讨论构成优质英语语言教学的第二个互补成份，亦即是为英语语言学习者创造语言丰富的学习环境的重要性。我们认为语言丰富的课室是满足英语语言学习者需要的理想学习环境。所以，本专栏讨论如何创造这样的理想学习环境。
Dans la precedente rubrique de l'Apprenant en anglais langue seconde (AAL), nous avons consacre le premier de nos quatre composants complementaires a essayer de mettre en relief la qualite de l'enseignement des AAL. Le premier de la serie a ete centre sur le role de l'enseignement explicite du code et de la comprehension pour les AAL. Dans cette rubrique nous avons rappele l'importance qu'il y a a fournir aux lecteurs AAL un enseignement du code a cote d'un enseignement de la comprehension. Dans cette rubrique-ci nous completons la rubrique precedente en montrant a quel point il est important de creer un enseignement dans une langue riche pour les AAL. Notre position est que les classes ou la langue est riche constituent un contexte ideal qui repond a ce dont les AAL ont besoin. Comment creer un tel environnement constitue le centre de cette rubrique.
В предыдущей публикации в рубрике Изучаем английский (ELL), мы обсуждали первый из четырех дополняющих друг друга компонентов, которые обеспечивают качественное знание родного языка: обучение кодированию-декодированию и пониманию текста при изучении английского. Сейчас речь пойдет о втором компоненте: обучении родному языку на основе богатых в языковом отношении материалов, на уроках, где звучит по-настоящему богатая английская речь. В центре этой публикации вопрос о том, как создать такую среду обучения.
En el articulo anterior sobre Aprendices de Ingles (ELL por sus siglas en ingles), hicimos referencia al primero de cuatro componentes complementarios con el proposito de realzar la buena instruccion para los ELLs. El primer articulo de la serie verso sobre la instruccion de codigos explicitos y de comprension para los ELLs. En ese articulo les recordamos a los lectores la importancia de instruir simultaneamente sobre el codigo y la comprension. Este articulo continua la serie al versar sobre la importancia de crear una instruccion rica en lenguaje para los ELLs. Nuestro argumento es que los salones de clase que son ricos en lenguaje crean un contexto idoneo para satisfacer las necesidades de los ELLs. El articulo muestra como crear tal medio ambiente.
