Conditions necessary for stopping rapid reactions by squirting aqueous solutions through a fine jet into a cold immiscible liquid are discussed. An apparatus is described which produces homogeneous samples frozen at any desired stage of a reaction occurring in aqueous solution and having a half-life of the order of 100 msec.
