Constraints for Gulf Energy Exporters," Ken Koyama discusses the two issues of security and dependability on imports of oil and Liquified Natural Gas. However, his projections are based on conditions in the Asian countries before the severe blow to some of their economies which is not anticipated by the author. Nevertheless, as the downward trend has been reversed in the economies of southeast Asia and Japan, the author's analysis becomes valid. In Chapter 4, Thomas Stauffer presents a new illuminating approach to analyzing the competition between natural gas and oil within OPEC and outside of OPEC, concluding that net income will decline if the producer opts to sell gas rather than oil. In Chapter 5, Michael Lynch attempts to analyze the economics of oil in the former Soviet Union by comparing different estimates and forecasts in those countries and their impact in world markets. In Chapter 6, Abdul-Razak Al-Faris presents a rudimentary econometric model in an attempt to forecast demand for gasoline in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. In the last Chapter, Walid Khadduri focuses on previous constraints that did not permit the Gulf to optimize its strategies. It is a useful and insightful approach. In spite of certain shortcomings, Gulf Energy and the World fills an important gap in the literature on the significance of the Gulf oil in the global context and can be used by both specialists and others.
