Presents the case history and evaluation of a preschool child (aged 2 yrs 11 mo) who met 6 of 8 Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III) criteria for major depressive disorder. The S's symptoms included dysphoric mood, feelings of worthlessness, eating and sleep disturbance, fatigue, and thoughts of death/suicide attempts.
