[1] In the paper “Cassini observations of ion and electron beams at Saturn and their relationship to infrared auroral arcs” by SV Badman et al.(Journal of Geophysical Research, 117, A01211, doi: 10.1029/2011JA017222, 2012), analysis errors appear in the Abstract, paragraphs 15, 17, 19, 20, 23, 26, 27, 32, 33–39, 41, and section 5. The corrected text appears here.[2] In the paper by Badman et al. the magnetic signatures of high-latitude, field-aligned currents measured by the Cassini spacecraft were presented, and related to auroral arcs in Saturn’s noon sector ionosphere. The analysis used to determine the upward or downward direction of the currents initially assumed that the current layers were stationary relative to Cassini. Later in the paper, these features were interpreted as adjacent layers of upward and downward fieldaligned currents moving poleward over Cassini, at a speed faster than Cassini. However, the discussion neglected one consequence of this suggested fast, poleward motion: that the upward or downward direction of the currents, identified by deflections in the azimuthal component of the magnetic field measured by Cassini, would then be reversed relative to the ‘stationary’analysis.
