Oxalate stone formers have a decreased concentration and excretion of urinary citrate. By oral ingestion of K-Na-citrate (Uralyt-UR) a 100% increase of citrate and a 40% decrease of calcium is achieved. Urinary oxalate, uric acid, magnesium and phosphate remain unaltered under therapy. Two additive effects improving the solubility of calcium oxalate are obtained by the intake of alkaline citrate. Thus it is suggested to extend prophylactic Uralyt-UR therapy to oxalate stone formers.
