Typical feed-stocks for the industrial methanol synthesis on copper catalysts consist of mixtures of CO2, CO, H2 with and without inert components (CH4 or N2). In a methane-rich feedstock excess hydrogen is generated, which can economically be used to produce more methanol by addition of CO2 (from flue gas or an ammonia plant) to the stream.
