Reminiscence therapy is an effective nursing intervention to enhance self-esteem, reduce social isolation and depression, and provide comfort in the elderly population. Nursing case managers, in any setting, who are working with the elderly population will likely encounter patients with this debilitating disease. This article describes reminiscence therapy and how it can be used in the care of patients with Alzheimer's disease. Strategies for using reminiscence therapy with patients who have Alzheimer's disease are discussed.
