Randall’s plaque serves as a nidus for calcium oxalate kidney stone formation and 25 growth. The precise location of these plaques within the nephron and their site of formation 26 have yet to be determined. In this issue of AJP-Renal Physiology, Evan and colleagues present 27 exciting data suggesting Randall’s plaques form specifically in the ascending thin limb of the 28 loop of Henle in idiopathic calcium oxalate stone formers. 29
