ConclusionsOur studies indicate that the presence of BrC1 in a Li/SOC12 cell significantly modifies the discharge chemistry of the cell. The discharge of the BrC1 in the cell proceeds through the reductions of C12, Br2, and BrC1. The presence of BrC1 helps to remove some of the S formed by the reduction of SOC12. However, it also produces sulfur halides, SO2Br2, and Br2 in partially discharged cells, which appears to adversely affect the storability of the cell after partial discharge.
