From blood samples taken within 2 wks after admission, 20 serum proteins were analyzed in 32 acutely psychotic patients, 16 schizophrenic, 11 manic depressive, and 5 borderline psychotic patients. Results of the analysis were compared to 32 controls. A pattern of acute phase reaction was seen in all Ss; ceruloplasmin, which usually is high during acute phase reaction, was low in all Ss; gamma-A-gobulin was decreased in the borderline psychotic Ss; and the 2 glycoproteins, hemopexin and alpha2-glycoprotein were increased in the manic-depressive Ss.(62 ref.)(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
