The discipline of Kurdish studies is one of the fastest-growing areas in the field of Middle Eastern studies. Traditionally, studies on the Kurds have been entangled with narratives of political turmoil and eventful historiography. While researchers of the Kurds were, for a long time, confined to western-origin orientalists or Kurdish supporters of militia groups, the number of works undertaken by researchers from other ethnic and national backgrounds is growing.
