Abstract A review of 330 patients with carcinoma of the breast associated with pregnancy is presented. The patients were divided into three categories: coincident (C), lactation (L) and subsequent (S). The association is becoming more uncommon and does not constitute a significantly increased risk. Subsequent pregnancies are associated with an excellent survival rate regardless of nodal status. Survival is better if the patient is treated during the first trimester of pregnancy than during the second or third trimesters or within three months of delivery. Therapeutic abortion is contraindicated and ovarian ablation is not beneficial. The majority of patients were treated by a radical or modified radical mastectomy combined with regional radiotherapy. Very few patients had a typical inflammatory carcinoma.
