We examined three sympatric gobies (Acentrogobiussp. A,Acentrogobiussp. B, andAcentrogobiussp. C) that were recognized as a single species “Acentrogobius pflaumii” until recently. Our aims were to describe their geographic distribution patterns and clarify their habitat use across the Japanese archipelago. Exhaustive specimen sampling revealed that their distributions overlapped broadly, although the distributional range ofAcentrogobiussp. A was somewhat more southerly than those of the other two species, and onlyAcentrogobiussp. A was found in the Ryukyu archipelago. The species showed significant differences in two environmental factors (water depth and salinity) measured at the collection sites.
