A detailed mapping of the distribution of ascorbic acid in rat brain was undertaken using a slice and semi-micro punching technique. New data is provided on a number of rat brain regions. There are very marked gradients of ascorbate concentrations throughout the various nuclei. The possible correlation of ascorbate levels with the various neurotransmitter systems is discussed.
