Describes some of the acoustic properties that must be identified by a listener to distinguish between words. Such properties include the presence of low-frequency periodicity, the presence of noise or aperiodicity, a high vs low amplitude of turbulence noise, and an abrupt as opposed to a gradual rise in amplitude.
