This paper presents a novel and modular way of an adaptable autonomous underwater vehicle called Monsun. The robot can be equipped with various hardware modules that feature sensor and communication capabilities qualifying it for a large number of mission tasks in the field of environmental monitoring. Having the possibility to adapt the robot by hardand software components, the Monsun robot differs from most conventional AUVs.
