Roasting-magnetic separation and direct reduction methods were used to treat an oolitic-hematite ore under laboratory conditions to produce magnetite concentrate and sponge iron respectively. The influences of processing parameters such as reduction time, temperature and reductant dosage on both processes were investigated. The results show that, using anthracite as the reductant,a magnetite concentrate with an iron grade of 61.60% and a recovery of 96.65% can be obtained by magnetic separation of the ore pre-roasted at 850 ℃ for 45 minutes.Meanwhile,a sponge iron with a grade of 89%,a metallization rate of 90% and a recovery of 85% can be obtained from the magnetic separation of ore pre-reducted directly at 1050 ℃ for 5 hours with the mixture of anthracite and calcium carbonate as reductants.
