Two new brazilian species of Velloziaceae are described in this paper: Pleurostima riparia N. Menezes & Mello-Silva and Vellozia lateola Mello-Silva & N. Menezes, both from the Grao-Mogol area, in the Espinhaco Range of Mountains, north of Minas Gerais. Descriptions including anatomical features of leaves and illustrations are presented. Aiso, the peculiar characters and taxonomic relationships of each species are discussed
