Interference theory, though generally accepted as an adequate explanation of forgetting, may not be sufficient to account for all the data. An alternative position hypothesizes that warm-up is a 2nd part of forgetting independent of direct interference with the goal responses. Experimental studies of this 2-factor view are not sufficiently strong to warrant acceptance or rejection at this time.(79 ref.)
