The conditions of lysin production by staphylo-cocci are complex, and different strains do not react alike. It is important that the reaction should not become too alkaline, and glycerol and phosphate buffer are therefore favorable. Strong lysins may be obtained by extracting agar on which the cocci have grown, with saline.
