In 1974-1975, converted refracted earthquake waves (CREW) were recorded with'the Zemlya apparatus along a series of regional profiles in Eastern Cuba (fig. 1). The recordings enabled us to trace the stable F1, F2 and M conversion boundaries, which are identical to the surfaces of the basement. Also trace-able are the" basaltic" layer and the MohoroviEi6 discontinuity respectively, as well as several rather extensive boundaries with either norm4 distribution or a velocity inversion. The absolute velocities in the crustal strata were determined from data on refracted waves from experimental and industrial explo-sions, making it possible to obtain P and S wave holograms at distances up to 20-120 kilometers. This work was a continuation of similar investigations performed in the western part of the island, results of which have already been published (5, 6).
