Wet clutch is the core component in automatic gearboxes of vehicles. High-speed rotation generates unstable lubrication film and causes vibration. Surface texture is recognized effective to gain a steady lubrication film while the corresponding research is rarely. In the present article, the mathematical model of incompressible Newtonian lubrication oil is proposed with Navier-Stokes equations, and the finite element models of hydrodynamic lubrication with hemispherical, cylindrical and cuboidal surface texture are employed to gain the pressure distribution and load-bearing capacity. The influences of texture geometry, texture rate and texture depth on pressure distribution and load-carrying capacity are investigated. When the separator plate is textured, the load-bearing capacity is enhanced. The cylindrical and cuboidal texture perform better than hemispherical texture at low rotating speed. As the texture rate increases, the load-bearing capacity nonlinearly enlarged while the torque linearly decreases. It is also found that load-bearing capacity linearly increases when the texture depth changes from 0 mm to 0.15 mm and the change of torque is small. Based on the comparison with the experimental result, the theoretical and simulation method are satisfactory. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
