Early studies on mice treated with anti-IgD from birth have suggested the presence of certain deficiencies in their immune However, no detrimental effects on antibody production in the spleen were detected in two recent studies3.'in spite of the absence of detectable IgD'B-cells and markedly reduced number of Ig'cells. Since the spleen contains an IgM'IgD-B-cell population which is lacking in the lymph node, 5 it is possible that anti-IgD treatment more severely depletes the B-cell compartment of the lymph node than of the spleen. Therefore, in the present study a comparison was made of the effect of chronic suppression with anti-IgD from birth on the immune response in the spleen and lymph nodes. In addition, the ability of splenic B-cells from anti-IgD treated mice to transfer an immunologic response was studied.
