In 1973, fruit bearing of beech forests of the Chugoku district was investi gated in different localities and altitudes. The results of the investigation are summarized as follows: 1) This year the crop was generally abundant, and the fruit bearing was observed on 89 percent of the trees in all localities, and on 95 percent of those at the optimal habitat for beech.
