The ice nucleating activity of lead iodide was tested with chlorides and sulphates of Na, K, Mg and NH4and other iodides at salt concentrations of 0, 0.01, 0.1 and 1 M. It has been found that the chloride salts deteriorate the nucleation activity of PbI2while sulphates help nucleation at certain concentrations. Among the iodides of K, Rb, Cs and NH4, NH4I has remarkably increased the activity of PbI2by about 2°C whereas other iodides do not show any appreciable change in the activity of PbI2. The possible causes for the activities of the soluble materials have been discussed on certain qualitative considerations.
