cation of a thematic issue on a timely topic. January 1990 marked the first such issue, on the results of the Cosmos 1887 spaceflight studying the effects of microgravity on animal physiology. Here, FJ Editors Solomon H. Snyder and Toshio Narahashi explain why they selected the theme of diseases of receptors and channels. We tentatively plan to alternate basic science and disease-related themes. Thus the January 1991 issue will feature the Human Genome Initiative, with essays collected by Editor Jorge E. Aflende. For July 1991 the theme will be AIDS, coordinated by Editor Tak W. Mak, assisted by Hans Wigzell.
