The funds through which the Collection has been maintained have been obtained from the sale of cultures, The Society of American Bacteriologists, and from a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. The grant from the Rockefeller Foundation has expired and under the present economic conditions the Committee has been unable to obtain a renewal of this grant or to secure funds from other sources. It has been necessary to reduce ex-penses by decreasing the staff, reducing salaries and exercising other economies. This has made it necessary to reduce the Col-lection somewhat by eliminating duplicatesand some of the cultures for which there is little call will be placed in the care of volunteer curators.
