A new method for the preparation of simple boron cations is described. It involves abstraction ofhydride ions from BH-containing compounds by triphenylmethyl fluoroborate,(C6H5) 3CBF4. Bis (base) dihy droboron (1+) cations were obtained from simple amine-boranes and from the BH4~ anion. Some ofthe properties and reactions which salts containing these cations undergo are described.
