1T T is increasingly well-understood today that there are two 11 distinguishable levels of education for industrial quality field professionals. A first level is that education which may be acquired by persistent and continuous on-the-job study by an individual person. A second level is that education which needs to be acquired by attending or participating in a graduate degree program emphasizing fundamental principles of statistics and quality (reliability, safety) engineering at a good college or university. This second level of quality education is not further addressed in this review. This graduate level education for the quality professional must give rise to much future attention in the quality field.This book on defect prevention, under review here pertains strongly to the above first level," on-the-job" education for the quality professional. It is the most complete one-book collection of simple statistical tools for quality education this writer has ever seen. Here-to-fore, these basic tools are scattered among many journals, transactions, books, documents, etc.; thereby, rendering the full on-the-job education task practically impossible for quality workers in industry and government. Thus, author Victor E. Kane and editor Edward G. Shilling are due our highest compliments and most appreciative thanks for the prodigious undertaking of writing and publishing their Defect
