With the wide deployment of the Internet, security has become an increasingly important issue. Communication among distributed applications providing services have to be aware of security features, or have to be secured with external mechanisms otherwise. In this paper, several strategies to secure the communication of applications are discussed and compared. The realization of these strategies with SCTP is examined thereafter.
