Ecotoxicology series Ecotoxicology is the study of the fate and effect of toxic agents in ecosystems. In the first part of this series John Bascietto, Dexter Hinkley, and colleagues provided an overview of applications of ecotoxicology through thevari-ous regulatory acts and programs of EPA. They reported that new di-rections within EPA reflect an in-creased emphasis on the role of sediments, biomarkers, and eco-system assessments in regulating environmental pollutants.(See the January 1990 issue, p. 10.)
