Miami, Florida he normal female organism adapts to pregnancy by undergoing various anatomic and physiologic changes. These alter-ations are most remarkable in the urinary tract, probably because of its proximity to, and its common embryologic origin with, the reproductive system. These profound changes raise two major clinical problems: the increased risk of urinary tract infections and the erroneous interpretation of diag-nostic test results. In this article I will discuss morphologic changes that are of clinical significance.
