Data have been obtained for the kinetics of growth of oxidised surface monolayers on scratched silver electrodes in chloride solutions. The mechanism is that of random oxidation of exposed metal atoms as is demonstrated by the fact that the current density on the scratch decays linearly with increase in film coverage.
