The chain structure of polyfa-methylvinyl methyl ether) in the crystalline state was investigated by using X-ray diffraction and conformational energy calculations. Bond angle deformations coupled to preferred internal rotation angles are included in our approach. In agreement with previous nmr results, this polymer is syndiotactic and in the crystalline state forms a 52 helix. ombined application of X-ray diffraction and con-formational analysis has been recognized as a powerful routeto determining the chainstructure of crystalline polymers. 4-7
