In the present experiment,a photo-oxidation mutant, designated as 812HS,derived from a segregation population of an indica photo-thermo-sensitive male sterile line 812S was found.812HS showed the same agronomic traits as 812S in the seedling stage, however, the leaves of 812HS turned yellow from the top by photo-oxidation when exposed to strong sunlight at a low temperature at tillering and jointing.Physiological analysis showed that the activities of PSⅡreaction center(RC) and PSⅡ electron transport of the mutant were significantly reduced in comparison with its wild-type,however,remaining energy of PSⅡ reaction center was increased, and the light use efficiency was reduced. The leaves etiolating of the mutant was arisen by photooxidized chlorophyll.Genetic analysis of F1 and F2 populations of 812HS/090028(an indica line from IRRI) showed that photo-oxidation was controlled by a new single dominant gene,LPO1(t).Using BSA(bulk segregant analysis) and LPO1(t) was mapped primarily between RM307 and RM401,with genetic distances of 4.3 cM and 4.5 cM,respectively,on Chromosome 4.LPO1(t) gene is a new gene distinguished from all other genes related to leaf photo-oxidation in rice.
