SIR—Virmani and colleagues (June 23, p 1710) 1 pose questions about our necropsy study of the association between sudden cardiac death and contraction-band necrosis2 and we would like to clarify the methods we used. Full-thickness transverse slices of free left ventricular wall were taken from apex, base, and a point midway between the two. Each slice was then divided into three blocks (anterior, posterior, and lateral), and paraffin-embedded. Each case, therefore, had a total of nine tissue blocks, and one section from each was stained with Heidenhain’s iron haematoxylin.
