ABSTRACT In accordance with the hypothesis that the methylphenidate-like central stimulants amfonelic acid, mazindol, nomifensine and methylphenidate produce their action by inhibiting the re-uptake of dopamine these compounds antagonized the stimulatory effect of (+)-amphetamine in reserpinized rats and mice at the same doses as they caused central stimulation in normal animals.
