Reviews studies of visual evoked potentials in observers with naturally occurring amblyopia using luminance and pattern stimuli. Results confirm previous studies showing that amblyopia due to strabismus/anisometropia results in marked abnormalities in the cortical responses of the amblyopic eye to patterned stimuli. In amblyopia due to stimulus deprivation, marked abnormalities occur in response to luminance as well as patterned stimuli.
