Materials and MethodsMice. BALB/cByJ mice were purchased from the Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, Me. Seven-to nine-week-old mice were used in all experiments. Virus. The Armstrong CA 1371 strain of LCMV (clone 7) and a variant (clone 13) derived from this virus were used in this study [8]. Clone 13 was isolated from the spleen of a two-month-old LCMV carrier mouse infected at birth with clone 7 [8].
